Plant Fritillaria bulbs in autumn (September–December) in a sunny to partially shaded spot with well-draining soil. Dig a hole 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb and place it with the pointed tip facing up (for larger varieties, planting slightly on their side can help prevent water pooling in the hollow top). Space bulbs 15 to 20 cm apart. Cover with soil and water lightly.
