Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals set by the United Nations in 2015. Together, they form a global plan to build a better, fairer world by 2030. They cover big challenges like poverty, inequality, climate change, and protecting the environment — and they ask everyone, from governments to businesses to individuals, to help out where they can.

Why I Contribute to the SDGs
I believe it is important to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an entrepreneur. Although one business cannot change the world on its own, I believe that every conscious decision can make a positive difference. By reducing the environmental impact of transportation and logistics, I aim to contribute to SDG 13: Climate Action, helping to limit COâ‚‚ emissions wherever possible. In addition, I use environmentally friendly packaging materials and separate the waste produced within my business, supporting SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. In this way, I strive to operate my business as sustainably as possible while contributing to a better future.

Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production focuses on using resources responsibly and reducing environmental impact. To contribute to this goal, I use protective packaging made from FSC®-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) materials. By choosing responsibly sourced packaging, I help promote more sustainable production and reduce the environmental impact of my business.

Climate Action
SDG 13: Climate Action focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and taking action against climate change. At Gerven Bulbs, we contribute to this goal through Shopify Planet (Millennium tier). For every order, we contribute to certified carbon removal projects that help reduce the climate impact of shipping. These projects combine nature-based restoration with innovative carbon removal technologies, supporting long-term climate action. In this way, every order contributes to reducing our environmental impact and supporting a more sustainable future.

Example of a Carbon Removal Partner
One example of a company that contributes to the carbon removal portfolio supported through Shopify Planet is Climeworks. The company develops Direct Air Capture and Storage (DAC+S) technology, which removes carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere and stores it safely in underground geological formations. This example demonstrates the type of innovative climate solutions that are supported through the broader carbon removal portfolio.
The video below, produced by BBC StoryWorks, highlights Climeworks' long-term vision of scaling durable carbon removal technologies to achieve a meaningful global climate impact. It demonstrates the type of innovation and advanced carbon removal solutions supported through the broader Shopify Planet portfolio.
