Dig a hole 2 to 3 times the height of the bulb and place it with the pointed tip facing up (for larger varieties, planting slightly on their side can help prevent water pooling in the hollow top). Space bulbs 15 to 20 cm apart. Cover with soil and water lightly.

    FAQ - About Fritillaria

Fritillaria bulbs are best planted in autumn, between September and December, before the first frost sets in. This gives the bulbs enough time to form roots before winter begins.

As a rule of thumb, plant Fritillaria bulbs at a depth of about two to three times their own height. Also allow sufficient spacing between the bulbs, usually 15 to 20 cm, depending on the size of the variety.

Yes, Fritillaria grows best in a sunny to partially shaded location. It likes well-draining soil and thrives less well in shady, damp conditions, as the bulbs are prone to rot.

Fritillaria bulbs can be perennial, but less reliably so than many other bulbs. They are more prone to rot than average, so success strongly depends on well-draining soil and the right location. Some varieties, like F. meleagris, naturalize readily, while others, like F. imperialis, may decline in bloom quality over the years
