Dit soort de Kievitsbloem (Fritillaria) 'persica' is een van de buitenbeetjes van de fritillaria-soorten en komt oorspronkelijk uit Cyprus, Turkije, Iran en Syrië. De bollen zijn bijna net zo groot als die van de keizerskroon en de planten kunnen 120 cm hoog worden. Ze vormen ze lange trossen met donkerpaarse, bijna zwart hangende klokjes. In april gaan de onderste bloemen van de tros al open, maar ze blijven zo lang goed dat ze ook nog mooi zijn als de laatste, hoogste bloemen opengaan. Wie verzekerd wil zijn van bloemen, kan de bollen het beste in juli oogsten en tot de planttijd in oktober bewaren op kamertemperatuur. Maar als de grond goed doorlatend is en ook in de zomer vochtig blijft, kunnen ze ook in met los, plantaardig materiaal bedekt worden om de jonge scheuten tegen late nacht vorst te beschermen. De bloemen worden als snij bloemen gezien.
